Irvin S. Benowitz, D.O.

Dr. Irvin S. Benowitz grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. His education included graduation of East High School, B.A. and a USAF commission from the University of Utah, and an M.S. in biology from California State University, Northridge (CSUN). He was elected to Alpha Epsilon Delta Premedical Honorary at Utah and was selected as a Graduate Assistant in Developmental Biology at CSUN. Dr. Benowitz attended Des Moines University (DMU) College of Osteopathic Medicine becoming a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine where he received Special Honors in Biochemistry.

He has completed a Teaching and Learning and Educational Leadership Fellowship at the University of Southern California and has also completed a Reynolds mini fellowship in Geriatrics at Johns Hopkins University. His military experience includes Chief Disaster Preparedness, Homestead AFB, Florida; Health Professions Scholar at DMU; postgraduate education at Malcolm Grow USAF Medical Center, Andrews AFB, Maryland; and the School of Aerospace Medicine, Brooks AFB, Texas. Dr. Benowitz served at Deputy Commander, 146 TAC Hospital, VNANGB, and as Commander, 752 MDS, MARB. He was designated a chief flight surgeon and has served as a consultant for Air Reserve Headquarters. He retired as a colonel.

Board Certifications include: Preventive and Aerospace Medicine, Family Practice, and Utilization Review and Quality Assurance, and Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine. He is a designated Aviation Medical Examiner. Leadership positions include: President of the Los Angeles County Osteopathic Medical Association. Chief of Staff, Burbank Community Hospital and Chairman, Family Practice, St. Joseph Hospital, Burbank. Dr. Benowitz is a Yesod graduate, University of Judaism. He served as Jewish Lay Leader, Edwards AFB., and President, Burbank Temple Emanuel. He is married to Rita, and Sara and Louis are his children.
